FREELANCERS Get out of your own way!

I sincerely want you to be successful that’s why I’m taking the time to write this today.

I’m actually very anxious and excited on this early Fall Saturday as I really want to go and do a number of awesome things that I had planned (thank God for Florida) but I received some emails recently that really made me think.

I’m like damn.

People are really in some serious serious situations and are depending on Freelance Writing to make it through.

I have read emails from people who are REALLY up against it man, I’m talking about they have to move out of their house in 30 days because of a foreclosure, some have loved ones in need of medical assistance, and others have just lost their jobs or they need a way to subsidize their income which never seems to keep up with increasing bills.

I FEEL YOUR PAIN .

So, this whole week I’ve been thinking about how I could help you in the most substantial way possible to really make a MEANINGFUL difference.

I started thinking about HOW I got to where I am today, and HOW I did it and then, DING a light came on.

It wasn’t so much WHAT I did it was what I DIDN’T DO.

So I put together a list of some tips that I think will really help you, here they are:

#1 – Don’t Doubt You.

That’s what other people are there for.

Your job is to give it all you got one word at a time if you want to be a successful freelance writer.

Also, you should go ahead and accept the fact that you are already independently wealthy because you are the one that creates the awesome content that people want to read.

This is one of the things I learned from reading Tom Ewer’s book,  It made a huge impact on my results this year.  So, if you’re already a good writer and are really serious about making it as a Freelancer on the internet then I recommend you read this book and update your strategy.

#2 – Don’t be Foolish.

The wise man knows that he don’t know nothing.

-Socrates

If you’re not making real money as a freelance writer it’s 100% because YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO or YOU’RE NOT DOING IT.  If you are seriously trying to make a career out of writing can you really afford to not know what you’re doing?

Seriously, BE HONEST do you know how to write a blog post that people should pay you $200 for?  Or how to even find a client that would pay you that type of money?

NO?

Well, I strongly recommend you get trained.

Think about it.

There are no NURSES that consider being a nurse without planning on going to nursing school.  The same applies to FREELANCE writing.  This is a legitimate profession and there are techniques that you must master if you want professional results like an income from writing that will keep the lights on in your house and food in the refrigerator.

If you’re serious, take it seriously and get professional training and then go make the money that you know you deserve.

#3 – Don’t expect your clients to help you get paid off of them.

They are supposed to be hiring you to help THEM.

Think about it.

If you are the professional why are you asking your “client” what to write about?

Shouldn’t you have some legitimate ideas that THEY should consider?

People have no idea how POOR an impression they are leaving when they ask the website for help with a topic by sending these weak ass pitches like hey, uhh I’m interested in writing for you can you let me know what types of articles you are looking for, thanks?

Why do you think YOUR client will help you get paid off of them?

why?

All you’re doing is telling your client IN WRITING that YOU don’t have a clue what YOU are doing.

Furthermore, most of the time the answers to your questions are usually already answered on some page on their site.

It’s YOUR JOB TO KNOW.

Especially on the gigs that are publicly available to all comers like those in the 101 ways to get paid to write ebook.

For example I have explained in detail specifically what I’m looking for and what I’m NOT looking for in my $100 guest post offer but I still get emails from people saying, Hey Darnell can you tell me what you’re looking for in an article?

What impression do you think this leaves?

Now do you see why I recommend training?

Can’t afford a training coarse right now? At least read a book, you have to educate yourself or you’ll stay stuck in the same CYCLE.

WATCH THIS

Ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I risked life and limb to record this just for you I hope it motivates you to take things to a whole new level starting NOW.

Get the training you need and put it in play this coming week and then I want you to write me and let me know how your results have improved.

I want to share your story so everyone can see what is possible when you BELIEVE and focus on strategy.

Here’s the first post that I wrote for a “big” blog this year in February.  Here’s the post that I responded to.

If I can do it you can too.

I hope this post helped you; now share it like your hair is on fire and post comments below to join the discussion.

peace.

I’ve been reading your blog for a minute and I have saved the ones I haven’t read yet and just got to this one and the video you made while driving cracked me up…. It’s been a bad day Darnell, hell it’s been a bad year or so actually, but your encouragement and this video really helped out tonight and the strangest thing is this… I’ve been telling myself that I’m either gonna have to start using my writing for freelancing or I’m gonna have to get my cdls (I was a truck driver in the army) and start doing that and then I read this and saw your info about the cdls…. You’ve just been the answer for everything tonight and I appreciate you so much, thanks again.

    • Hey Yulia,

I appreciate the feedback thank you. I’m honored when people ask me questions via email and I really want to see more people succeed in freelance writing. Its frustrating as a mofo but it can work. The truth is employment itself is becoming an unreliable way to sustain yourself its time to diversify.

Good point. Just a few months ago I saw freelance writing as more of a hobby, but then after reading a lot of stuff like this (and growing really tired of my day job), I was able to switch to it full-time. It’s been two months now and I haven’t regretted a day of it. So far it’s been paying the bills, but I feel like I’m getting to the point where I’ll be able to start traveling and doing other fun things again, although this time funded by something I love doing.

I’ll be looking forward to more of your writing.
