Grow your audience by focusing your efforts on the activities that will move you closer to accomplishing your goals, do not listen to block heads.
Welcome to The Monday Morning Momentum Marketing Manual #21.
You can also find all of the previous 5M reports here.
“You have to stay focused on what’s important.”
This is the most important point to remember and is also the reason why I created the most important podcast.
It’s so easy to get caught up in everything that’s happening on our social media feeds, radios, and televisions.
Every screen we own is constantly blasting us with more and more INFORMATION.
The question is how much is too much?
How many gallons of water can you pour into a five gallon bucket?
I’ll never forget I was once changing the oil on my semi truck which takes 11 gallons of oil and I was returning some old oil to AutoZone for recycling and the guy at the counter was like, “how much oil do you have in those buckets we have a 10 gallon limit.”
I was like dude you can see these are 5 gallon paint buckets, I only have two of them.
COME ON, man.
My attitude is like please pay attention people.
I find that the biggest hurdle facing prospective business owners is distraction.
I’ll be the first to admit the infotainment reality series which has become the modern media is very enticing, ain’t it?
It’s easy to get caught up in the latest news about baby North West and where’s Edward Snowden, but once you’re done “zombie-ing” out on the internet for two hours the situation that YOU are in remains the same.
Yeah there may be someone agreeing with your TAKE on #GunRights on Facebook or what ever, yes sir you sure told them.
But how does this help you find new clients for your business?
How are you going to provide for your family now that you have made this point or have viewed this information?
This is why I started writing my extremely spicy current events blog LlenRad because I realized in this life you have two options:
YOU CAN EITHER:
A) GET MAD
B) GET PAID
By starting a blog and OWNING what you create you have set your sail in distinct direction.
OWNERSHIP HAS PRIVILEGES
This is is why Marky Z is so freaking rich, bastard.
He successfully “zuckered” the dudes who originally thought up Facebook out of their idea.
He “zuckered” hundreds of millions into uploading their personal information and photos into his site FOR FREE that he would then sell FOR FEE.
Then he “zuckered” stock investors who bought the hype and thought $FB was worth $38/share. Ha haaaaaaaa! I tried to warn people.
This is also why I am starting to see social media as more of a distraction than an important need for business owners.
It’s a value add for someone else but it’s a time drain for YOU. This is why I urge you to PLEASE stop writing for Facebook, Google+, and Twitter for FREE.
The next interview I’ll publish will feature Siddarth the founder of TechBii.com
Extra large shout out to George for booking and writing this excellent interview and sharing this awesome exclusive story as the first ever guest post for Your Online Biz.
Here’s a young man in college that has launched a blog to the top 35k on Alexa in only a matter of months and he did it all WITHOUT A LAPTOP.
We’ll you’ll have to check out the post to get the full story, I’ll publish it later today but in summary he focused on what was MOST IMPORTANT at all times.
Seriously. Think about what you have been doing for the last six months.
June ends this week if you didn’t know.
Now look at Sid’s blog and see what he has been building.
This is how you grow your audience by putting your best foot forward.
You have to resolve to complete whatever it is that must be done in order to move closer to success.
5M Step #2 – Grow your audience by reviewing Google Analytics performance:
Last week I attracted more visitors than the previous week.
Instead posting comments or writing guests posts I did something completely different.
I submitted proposals.
Also I believe more visitors returned to my site due to the email messages that I send out to subscribers.
This would explain why there are more visitors but less unique visitors.
This would also explain the AVD increase as these visits would be more focused, I have found even in my own habits when I read an article from an email I’m more engaged with it. I wouldn’t have clicked the link in the email if I wasn’t interested in finding out more.
Here’s my results for last week:
If you are serious about growing your audience weekly then you must focus on the 7 metrics in the Google Analytics Audience Overview report.
They are the most fundamental indicators of what is happening with your audience.
When you compare your last week’s results with the previous week:
GREEN = GOOD
RED = BAD
The 5M series is all about growing your audience consistently for consecutive weeks.
5M Step #2 – Take action to grow your audience by focusing on the 7 key metrics:
After further review I have reassigned % New Visits as a QUANTITATIVE metric.
Why? The percent of visits to your site that are made by first timers is a direct result of PROMOTION and/or ADVERTISING.
This is a quantity function.
Also, a primary focus for any business is to tell NEW people about what they are doing. You will find it very difficult to grow by telling the same people your same old message week in and week out.
Reaching out to NEW people and measuring how many of them actually show up to your blog is all about quantity. If you tell tons of new people who have never heard of your blog then this number will definitely increase. If you only communicate with your existing audience via blog posts or email messages then this number will decrease. For the last several weeks I have been doing the later.
THE GOOD NEWS:
- Avg. Visit Duration [QUALITATIVE]: UP 21.71% after being DOWN 42.17% the previous week.
- Visits [QUANTITATIVE]: UP 3.10% after being DOWN 5.04% the previous week.
- Bounce Rate [QUALITATIVE]: DOWN -3.72% after being UP 0.83% the previous week.
THE BAD NEWS:
- Unique Visitors [QUANTITATIVE]: DOWN 4.62% after being DOWN 1.02% the previous week.
- Pageviews [QUANTITATIVE]: DOWN 4.14% after being DOWN 4.16% the previous week.
- Pages / Visit [QUALITATIVE]: DOWN 7.02% after being UP 0.93% the previous week..
- % New Visits [QUANTITATIVE]: DOWN 10.21% after being UP 7.77% the previous week.
The qualitative statistics indicate the quality of your content from the point of view of your reader.
Your content is not high quality if it does not score well objectively as measured by these statistics.
It would be excellent to at least get all THREE quality indicators in the green for last week but two out of three ain’t bad.
Only Pages / Visit was down this week. This is an indicator that my audience is finding less content to read per visit, gotta fix this.
Avg. Visit Duration and Bounce Rate moved in the positive direction last week.
This means visitors stayed around for longer and didn’t just leave on the same page they entered the site. Both very good indicators of quality.
Quantitative metrics reflect the simple count of how many visitors viewed your blog or the “quantity” of visitors.
When they say it’s a numbers game these are the numbers most people are talking about.
Visits was the only quantitative metric that improved from the previous week.
The other three Unique Visitors, Pageviews, and % New Visits were down.
Quantitative stats are a result of direct promotion. The more people you tell about your site the more visits you’ll get.
It’s simple as that.
Since I don’t run any advertisements for Your Online Biz people have to find my site either through social shares or using a search term that Google won’t tell me of coarse but that’s another issue.
Quantitative metrics tell the story of the results of your advertising. Yeah you might have emailed 10,000 people, but how many actually read your email and clicked the link?
This is why I had to reassign % New Visits as a quantitative metric, because it really is an indicator of how many NEW people are being notified about your site.
Jun 16, 2013-Jun 22, 2013 Compare to: Jun 9, 2013-Jun 15, 2013
Here are my activities from last week:
I only published one article last week too busy working for clients and getting my Florida on, what it’s summer time Ha haaaaaaa!
In order to find success you have to first be successful completing everything that ultimately will make you successful.
You also have to accept the fact that you are already a success.
This is because of a very good reason:
YOU WILL NOT QUIT.
Now that you know that you are a success it’s just a matter of time until you become successful in your lifestyle.
This is a function of how long it takes you to GET STARTED and STAY FOCUSED on what’s IMPORTANT, the sooner the better.
