How to Get more Comments and Stop Spam at the Same Time

Get Commentluv Premium.

I recommend the full version so that you can install in on all of your blogs.   This makes your return on investment infinite.

Why is it a good idea to encourage comments?

When visitors post comments they are adding high quality information to your post.

This is extending your idea and making it a conversation.

When more people get involved by submitting quality value add comments the engagement and total value of your post increases dramatically.

How many times have you read an article and the comments seem to be more interesting than the original post?

This is why I recommend CommentLuv Premium because it makes this process very easy.

Yes, there are negatives in anything in this world.

The con about premium commentluv is that because of the ability to provide people who post comments “dofollow” links tons of “spammers” and internet marketing link builders constantly show up posting BS comments hoping to get a link.

It’s good to get more traffic from these people looking to sneak in a comment but it’s annoying having to delete tons of comments from your blog like I have to, over 800 more to go, damn.

This is why it makes sense to upgrade to commentluv premium because you get the GASP anti spam functionality.

This is really cool because it doesn’t create a stupid ass CAPTCHA code that people have to enter which is annoying as hell and deters comments even from non spammers because you can’t figure out the secret word.

GASP detects spam in another way that encourages real discussion.

The timer function is my favorite feature because I don’t think a spammer would wait over a minute or two before they post a comment.

Most link promoters would just skip to the next site on their list instead of waiting.

Comment posters like Caren Smocker and who ever has been spamming me from GOOGLE are paid by the number of links they build.

Google has been spamming me like a MOFO

But now with the premium version of commentluv I can shut that foolishness down with one setting:

TRACKBACK VALIDATION / Auto remove Topsy etc. type trackbacks?

All I have to do is put “google” in this field and that’s the end to their spamming trackbacks tactics.

I don’t know what to say about GOOGLE spamming.

It just shows even when you’re on top you gotta keep fighting to stay there.

Why do you think they’re spamming me?

Have you ever received spam from Google or YouTube?

  1. Yes, it’s really important topic now a days, thanks for sharing.

  2. CommentLuv and GASP are available as “lite” versions. I don’t know if the lite version of GASP has all the features of the one bundled with CommentLuv Premium, but it is available. At least it was a couple months ago. I don’t think Andy would pull it.

As for spam from Google, it isn’t really from Google. Someone just wants it to look that way. I had a spate of spam from Facebook for a while.

I took an antispam plugin called Anticaptcha and modified it to simply delete anything that failed the spam test. The original just marked it as spam and put it into the moderation queue. This change keeps me from having to deal with excessive bot spam. Regular users don’t have problems as long as javascript is enabled. It is similar to GASP which I think I will eventually switch to.

    Hey Darnell,

I’m a huge CommentLuv Premium supporter and I think anyone that has he WordPress default commenting system should have this plug-in.

Sure, most spammers are going to spam no matter what plug-in you have so at least GASP can shut a lot of that down but the good thing about CommentLuv Premium is that you can make it a nofollow link period so it’s your choice either way whether you want to give the the love or not.

I think Andy did a fabulous job of creating this gem so I hope everyone will jump on board while they can. Awesome plug-in my friend.

    • Whats up Adrienne,

Yeah this plugin works the best out of any I have tried. I think it’s better than disquis also even though I know some people may disagree.

Comment systems that require you to logon aren’t really commenting systems in my opinion they almost convert a blog into a membership site.

Also askimet and captcha codes are a PITA GASP is much better.

Interesting post Darnell! I definitely need to switch to CommentLuv, in order to encourage others to comment on my site. However, what’s your view on Akismet? I find that it works pretty well in filtering out 90% of the spam, it’s just the odd spam comment that slips through, which isn’t that bad.

    • the captcha codes are a pain they are getting worse and worse we have to admit it’s an inconvenience and that’s not a good way to welcome guests commentluv stops spam in a way that still invites comments. captcha codes are a barrier aint nobody got time fo dat.

GASP sounds like a great functionality…I understand the difficulty of deleting spammy comments…I often read the comment before deleting because i don’t want a genuine comment to be discarded as spam.Currently one of my sites has over 400 comments awaiting moderation..I am switching to CommentLuv premium..Thanks for the information.

  7. Hi Darnell,

Great post! I also do recommend CommentLuv, but we need to upgrade it to premium to gasp the anti spam functionality. With CommentLuv,people get involved by submitting quality value add comments thus the value of your post increases dramatically.
