This is part 3 of the series don’t miss part two: Link Building: You’re Doing it Wrong+VIDEO
.
Why should you build back links for traffic first?
1. You control the results.
The #1 sign that you’re building backlinks correctly is referral traffic.
The #1 sign that you’re doing it wrong is that you’re building backlinks in order to reach a specific number.
Here’s the problems you’ll face if you do this:
- Google. The webmaster team has been going on for months about ‘unnatural links’ which is specifically building links in order to trick the search engine.
- You could be wasting your time. Watch the video in this post where I explain the reality of the traffic that you’ll get from ranking #1 on Google search. My advise, make sure you know what you’re getting before you order it. Do you really understand your keyword analysis?
You may do well for a while but you could end up sad and disappointed and then you’ll have to promote your site all over again from scratch and get your site off Google’s Panda sh1t list.
2. Builds important relationships.
Another important sign that you are building backlinks properly is that you also build connections with people.
That means people know who you are online.
They’ll use your link as a convenience for them to check in on what you’re doing and the latest happenings.
This is how it’s supposed to work.
That’s the benefit of the premium commentluv plugin is that it makes this process so easy and it helps bloggers interact in a mutually beneficial way.
It’s all bout synergy help me help you out.
3. Builds a foundation for SEO traffic.
Think about it.
Which site do you think Google should return for your search?
The site with tons of its own traffic or the site with tons of links?
It’s basically like this, you are going to Google expecting something but you are bringing them what? A whole bunch of backlinks? Ha!
I’ll put it to you bluntly:
Web site promotion is more about Quid Pro Quo than most people will ever know.
How do you win?
Focus on how the other person benefits, make sure they do and results will come.
Review your content and tweak it for the Search Engine results that you want.
Build your content marketing strategy on a foundation of common sense and focus on adding value.
- Solve the problems that exist in your niche.
- Focus on what’s important that’s happening or coming up.
The bottom line is if your links are being used to generate referral traffic the chances of Google flagging you is extremely low and the fact that you have this traffic will justify MORE SEO TRAFFIC.
Doesn’t that make sense?
This is what I mean when I say you have to be success to be successful.
The best path to success for your website is to first establish a consistent stream of referral traffic.
Then focus on Email(Campaigns) which will lead to direct traffic.
meanwhile review your content and optimize it for SEO results based off REAL interaction.
In other words use referral traffic as your leverage to obtain the other pieces of the pie:
Now it’s over to you.
Are you doing it wrong?
When you ‘build backlinks’ what are your real motivations, links or traffic?

Thanks for the perfect share link building is really a tough nail to crack but after reading u r writeup i found it easy and the results can be achieved
Hey Darnell,
Well I have to admit this is a great post. Solid advice for those still unsure of exactly what they should be doing regarding link building.
In the beginning I was all about getting those links but I didn’t do any of it through blackhat methods. I still didn’t get a lot of traffic or visitors for that matter. There always seemed to be some piece of the puzzle that was left out for me.
Once I finally “got it” I’m proud to say that the majority of my traffic is from referrals. Oh I’m still found in the search engines but I love that people are recommending my content. I mean how awesome is that!
Thanks for sharing this and I have some friends that really need to read this post so I’ll be sure to send this one to them.

Ha Haaaa! that’s awesome Adrienne,
Your opinion means a lot to me, thanks.
I’ve been having some discussion on Google+ communities and I haven’t had one blogger yet say that SEO traffic results in higher quality visits than referrals from blogs and social media.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying forget about SEO I’m just saying use strategy.
This is what has worked for me.

There has been some unending debate about natural link building whereby some seo analysts say that having more naked urls bank links than keyword based back links is preferred by google and considered natural than the other. However there are others who believe google can not punish you for for having many keyword anchored back links. So I have been wondering which is the best approach to this? Problem is that there are many people out there offering their advice on everything about seo and though some of them are correct there are others who are wrong.
So what’s you take on that?
The debate is off center in my opinion.
People are focused on SEO traffic but they don’t understand search engine traffic.
My research has shown that REFERRAL traffic is higher quality than SEO traffic.
However, people still focus all their time on SEO, BIG MISTAKE.
